Biography
Pianist, accordionist, producer, composer and arranger Art Bailey is active in the improvised and world music scenes, and has appeared with such diverse musical performers as jazz saxophonist Steve Lacy, classical violinist Itzhak Perlman, and renowned bluegrass musician Del McCoury. Art was the pianist with the Klezmer Conservatory Band for 10 years, contributing new arrangements to the band’s repertoire and making stage and television appearances worldwide.
Other fine and stellar musicians that Art has had the privilege of performing with include Brad Shepik, Steve Swell, Ratzo Harris, Herb Robertson, Marty Ehrlich, Guy Klusevcek, Karl Berger, Michael Bisio, Stephen Gauci, Alfredo (Chocolate) Armenteros, Brad Jones, Slavic Soul Party, the Atlanta Symphony, Andy Stein, Andy Statman, Andy Gonzales, Chris Washburne, Sam Bardfeld, David Krakauer, Frank London, and the Grammy award winning Klezmatics. Recent sideman duties include singer/songwriter Avi Fox-Rosen’s new cd, “Welcome to the Show”, and trumpeter Steve Gluzband’s celebrated release “Hot House- A Cuban Tribute to Charlie Parker”.
In addition to his activities as a pianist and accordionist, he is the leader of the recently formed piano trio Riboflavin, featuring bassist Michael Bates and drummer Owen Howard. An album of Art's compositions for this group is scheduled to be released soon.
Art also maintains a busy teaching schedule, with many happy and talented piano and accordion students on his roster.
